The Kunsthalle Prackenbach is built brick by brick. Founded in 2003 by Beate Engl it is since then a museum in progress. As artistic director she decided to develop the museum "the other way round": starting with public relations, marketing and a corporate identity of the museum, then building the museum shop with different merchandise and since recently commissioning work to start a collection. The future bricks will be more related to theory and research about possible art and themes for the museum to outline the focus of the collection.
There is still a long way to go for the Kunsthalle to emerge as a real museum and this is intended. The future goal of a first exhibition at the completed museum building might mark the end of the project. Until then the Kunsthalle is a think tank without limits, a non-hierarchical network and a free label for everybody who wants to use it: artists can add spectacular solo shows at Kunsthalle Prackenbach on their vita, theorists and curators can imagine their dream exhibitions and everybody can envision the most fabulous things to happen at Kunsthalle Prackenbach. Far from the busy centers of the art world, in a Bavarian village it will be developed to a retreat from the arts industry, a place where artist, curators, gallerists, theorists, collectors and spectators really meet in an inspiring setting of exchange.
